An Introduction To Stories

There are two kinds of stories in this world, those that are true, and those that we wish were true. You will find many people that will argue with you about which is better, but they are both necessary. The important thing is to find the true heart of the story. This is as true for stories as it is for people. So many are concerned with the shell of a person, what they see on the outside. But it is the heart of a person that is important, what is inside, who they are.  And so it is with a story. 

There are stories that are true, and stories that we wish were true. Throughout your life you will hear many of these stories. The teller of the tale will have a reason for the telling. They will dress it up in all kinds of glimmer and glam. It might have pizzazz, it might be sad, it might be full of laughter and mayhem. Enjoy those things as you will, but remember to always look for the heart. There are many stories that otherwise might be useless, but deep down, in their heart, you can find something precious to take with you and make your journey richer.

There are stories that are true, and stories that we wish were true, and some stories that are all mixed up. Don't get too worried about which parts are which. People get too caught up in that. The point of a story is not to be a perfect recording, even if it is a true story. If you ask three people to tell you what just  happened, each story will be different. That's because true stories are not recordings, they are reflections. Reflections distort, they make some parts bigger, some parts smaller, and some parts fade away to nothingness. People that pick stories apart looking for the truth, miss the heart. The heart is the only part that doesn't change. That is why we look for the heart. The heart is the part that matters. The heart is the most important part.

There are stories that are true, and stories that we wish were true. This story, of course, is both.
